Magnetic Therapy or Biomagnetic Healing

Magnetism is one of the basic force in the nature. It keeps all things in this galaxy in order. Earth itself is a big magnet and its magnetic field is responsible for protecting all life on earth against harmful effects of high energy radiations.

Earth as a magnet has two poles, a North Pole and a South pole. These North and South poles are for navigational purpose only. In Biomagnetism the nomenclature is just opposite. The geographic North Pole is referred to as South pole and geographical South pole is referred to as North pole. It is because when a bar magnet is suspended South Pole is attracted to North Pole and vice versa.

Magnet therapy has two distinct areas; pulsed bioelectric magnetic therapy and fixed magnetic therapy. In simple words the fixed magnets emit a static magnetic field where as electromagnets emit pulsed magnetic fields. Both fixed magnets and electromagnets are two different sides of the same coin but the electromagnets have three sides – electric field, magnetic field and electromagnetic radiation (EMR) as compared to fixed magnets which have two sides – electric field and magnetic field. Electromagnetic radiation is the result of rapid acceleration and deceleration of the electrons.

GM Crops - Boon or Bane

Since the times mankind took to agriculture, we have been improving our crops in order to get more yield. The tools of crop improvement are selective breeding of crops with desired characters, cross pollinating two related plants for desired characters followed by controlled self breeding. But this method of breeding has one major drawback. Nature has provided all organisms with genetic inability to breed freely with other species. An organism can breed only among those of same type. Due to this genetic blockage one species is unable to cross breed with another species. A species can breed among relatives of the same species only thus limiting the scope of improvement. There are some exceptions in nature to this like a cross between a donkey and mare is possible and results in a hinny, similarly across between a horse and jackass results in a mule but both hinny and mule are sterile.

Advances in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology have provided us with tools to do away with this genetic blockage. Biotechnology has enabled us to produce organisms with desired characters crossing all limits of species except for religious, moral and ethical issues.

Future influences of nanotechnology on our day to day life

Nanotechnology is about to change our life. We will soon have a new material, a nanotech product known as Spray on Liquid Glass. It is non toxic and can be sprayed on to any surface. The versatile spray, which forms an easy-clean coating one millionth of a millimeter thick-500 times thinner than a human hair – can be applied to virtually any surface to protect it against water, dirt, bacteria, heat and UV radiations.

Liquid glass is nothing but most common substance on the earth Silicon dioxide to which water or ethanol molecules have been added. The resultant material using techniques to produce nanopartical materials is known as Liquid Glass. The patent for this technology is held by Nanopool. The ultra thin layer forms a barrier invisible to human eye. It is resistant to water, dirt, microrgnisms, heat and UV radiations. Being ultra thin it is breathable. These properties make it a versatile material.

The dream of having self cleaning or perpetually clean clothes is a near reality. Hydrophobic (water repelling) nature of liquid glass makes it a suitable candidate for treating clothes. The treated clothes will be perpetually clean or simply require plain hot water to clean. More over the clothes will be instantly dry. But this will be a cause for worry to the companies manufacturing cleansing products. At the same time it will prevent environmental degradation.

In context to our country it may prove to be a blessing in disguise. A country where dirt and grime go hand in glove we may witness clean environment- be it public toilets, public transport including Indian Railways, offices, restuarents, hotels and what not. The humble house wife has a reason to smile as she will have less laundry, more cleanly and bacteria free utensils and crockery, clean floors and so on. The vehicles will get magic polish and magic wax. The heat resisting property of liquid glass may keep homes, cars, and offices to remain more cool thus reducing green house gasses emission. Tests have proved that Liquid glass can increase yield of grapes and other vegetables It may prove to be next generation insecticide and pesticide. Tests have shown that wood treated with liquid glass becomes resistant to termites. Liquid Glass could change our world more than Teflon and Gore-Tex Did. The Company says it’s completely safe for the environment, so maybe we can just go ahead and coat the whole world with it. Let’s just hope they are right about that harmlessness, lest we paint everything with some kind of goo. A lot of experimentation is needed before it becomes a reality

My first post

Hi friends,
Welcome to my first post.

Let me introduce myself and what you might be getting from me. I belong to the community of teachers and I teach Life Sciences. Life Science is something what I consider ‘Mother of all Sciences’. It is the way of human life.

What is Science?  Science is the endeavor of man kind to understand,to know its surrounding environment, universe and what not. Life science encompasses practically all branches of knowledge,as life itself is dependent on all the physical and chemical parameters with in our knowledge. Humans have an inquisitive mind which separates them from all other type of life.It is this very inquisitive nature which has given rise to so many questions and their probable answers.I call them probable because none of the answers found so far are absolutely correct. As we delve deeper and deeper we constantly change our opinions, theories and beliefs thus making science, in other words life is a dynamic force.

When man began his quest for knowledge all present day branches of science were non-existent. There were no physicists, chemists biologists and so on,just nature and natural science. The earlier seekers worked in all fields and spheres of life - Philosophy, Literature, Theology, Art, Technology and what not. As our knowledge grew we started differentiating between various fields of study. Quest for artificial methods to turn base metals into Gold gave rise to Alchemy(Chemistry). Similarly to mitigate the curse of diseases gave rise to medical profession and so on. But as our knowledge base grew rapidly in the last few decades the dividing line between various disciple has blurred. The result is merging of all fields into each other. All branches have practically merged into Life Sciences. New branches like Nanotechnology, Biotechnology and now even Electronics are looking at Life as Model for further development. All nano-machines are nothing but biomolecules. DNA – the building blockof life, is the new wonder molecule for storage and processing of information.

As my opinion goes’Life Science’ is the mother of all Sciences.

I hope to lure you back to my page with some thing from varied fields of interest.

till then,Bye-
